Matthews Renovation Work, Start to Finish

Greater Charlotte Contracting handles home renovation in Matthews, NC across the full scope of the work: roofing, bathroom remodels, kitchen renovations, siding, exterior repairs, painting, and the kind of smaller jobs most contractors won't return a call for. The owner has over 20 years of hands-on experience in roofing and construction, and that's not a company stat sitting on a website. He's on the job. If you're comparing contractors right now, that difference shows up in the estimate, the timeline, and the finished work. Five stars across 17 Google reviews backs it up. Call (704) 957-5323 to get started.

Matthews homes skew newer than much of the Charlotte metro. The median home here was built around 1993, with a heavy concentration built between 1980 and 2000. That era of construction brings its own set of issues: original roofing systems approaching or past their service life, siding materials from the 1990s that weren't built to last decades in the Carolinas, and bathrooms that haven't been touched since the house was built. Older sections like Pine Forest, Sardis Forest, and parts of Forest Park have homes going back to the 1960s and 1970s, and those need a harder look before any renovation begins. Permits for Matthews work run through the Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Agency, and Greater Charlotte Contracting handles projects with that process in mind.

What Matthews Homeowners Are Fixing Right Now

The most common calls we get from Matthews are about work that got deferred too long.

Roofing comes up the most. A Matthews home built in the early 1990s with an original roof is overdue for a replacement or at minimum a real inspection, not a visual pass from a driveway. Siding and exterior repairs are close behind. That vintage of construction used materials that look fine until they don't, and by the time water gets in, it's a bigger job than it needed to be. Inside, kitchens and bathroom remodels are where most of the renovation spend goes, and for good reason. Those rooms drive the value of the house. We also get calls for flooring and painting on homes that are being updated before a sale or after a purchase. The scope varies. The standard doesn't.

Full Scope

Services We Bring to Matthews

One contractor across the whole project. No handoffs, no finger-pointing between trades.

01

Roofing

Repair, replacement, and inspection. The owner's original trade. Matthews homes built in the 1980s and 90s are hitting the end of their roofing life, and a proper inspection tells you what you're actually dealing with.

02

Kitchen Remodel

Full remodels and targeted updates. Layout changes, cabinet replacement, countertops, tile work. Scoped to what you actually need, not a number inflated to cover everything we might possibly do.

03

Bathroom Remodel

Full gut-and-rebuild or single-fixture work. Tub replacement is a specific callout here. A lot of Matthews bathrooms from the 1990s have original tubs that are past their useful life.

04

Siding and Exterior

Replacement, repair, and full exterior renovation. Often paired with roofing on homes that need both before interior work starts. We won't upsell a full replacement when a targeted repair is the right call.

05

Handyman Services

Smaller jobs that other contractors won't bother with. Vent covers, drywall repairs, fixture swaps. One of our actual reviews from a homeowner describes exactly that situation. We showed up in the rain.

06

Decks and Outdoor

New builds and repairs. Matthews has the outdoor living demand you'd expect in the greater Charlotte area, and a deck adds usable square footage without the cost of interior square footage.

How It Works

From First Call to Finished Job in Matthews

No complicated intake process. Call (704) 957-5323, describe the project, and we set up a time to look at it. The estimate is itemized and accurate. Several Matthews-area clients have specifically noted that the final number matched the quote. That's not an accident.

  1. 01

    Call and Describe the Work

Tell us what you've got. Roof issue, kitchen update, bathroom overhaul, or something smaller. We'll ask the right questions to understand the scope before anyone drives out.

  2. 02

    On-Site Estimate

The owner comes to the site and looks at it. The estimate is itemized and specific, not a round number designed to leave room for additions later. You'll know exactly what you're agreeing to.

  3. 03

    Work Gets Done on Schedule

The person who gave you the estimate is the person running the job. Timeline commitments get kept. When they don't for reasons outside anyone's control, you hear about it before it becomes a problem.

Honest Scoping, No Inflated Numbers

This is worth saying directly: some contractors in the Charlotte area price work to cover everything they might possibly do, not what the job actually needs. We don't operate that way. The estimate you get reflects the work the house requires. If a repair is the right call, we'll tell you. If you need a full replacement, we'll explain exactly why. Several reviews call this out by name. Clint's quote was accurate and didn't go over budget. The estimate was neatly itemized and very reasonable. That's the standard, not a selling point. Mecklenburg County permits are factored in from the start, not added as a surprise after the estimate. Duke Energy's Smart Savers rebate program is worth asking about on certain energy-related improvements. We'll flag it if it applies to your project.

Clint did such a great job helping us replace some outdoor vent covers. We had a basket style vent cover that had cracked and birds had nested inside. We had previously tried other handymen that would say they would come out and never showed because it was a small job. Clint came out very quickly, in the rain, and made it so much more efficient and esthetically pleasing. He was very affordable and professional. Clint is the MAN! He will now be our go to guy for other projects. I highly recommend him!

So, I just wanted to first of all thank Liz for the great referral to get my home project done. I was a bit nervous however after meeting Clinton, I can’t thank him and his team enough for the job well done to my satisfaction. Clinton listened to what I wanted and delivered just that. Clinton not only listened also very professional and knowledgeable. He gave me a step by step timeline and actually stuck to it. That’s very rare to find in a contractor however his team was awesome and went above and beyond my expectations with the attention to detail. So my rating is really a 10/10. I had a simple garage make over.

Let. Me . Tell . You . Something . Clint is GREAT! He’s done a major project on my home and I couldn’t ask for a better experience with a general contractor . Our current project is converting a half bath to a full bath downstairs . And as I’ve stated everything has been great and it’s not complete but I’m that pleased with the way things have come along to write a review . Communication is very important in things like these and he is nothing short of amazing with his communication and professionalism ! If there was ever a doubt on who to select for your next project , don’t doubt . Reach out to Greater Charlotte Contracting !

We absolutely love our new kitchen. Clint was so easy to work with. Communication through the whole process was outstanding, the job was completed on time and his initial quote was very accurate with nothing going over budget. I highly recommended Greater Charlotte Contracting and will be using them again for future projects.

Had a great experience working with Clint and Greater Charlotte Contracting. He did great work in a reasonable amount of time and for a reasonable price. I have had a few home projects I’ve needed to complete within the last few months and he has not only provided me great service with these projects, but also has had great referrals for work outside of his scope of business. I would highly recommend anyone looking for work to be done in the Charlotte area to work with Greater Charlotte Contracting.

Frequently asked questions

Does Greater Charlotte Contracting pull permits for renovation work in Matthews, NC?
Yes. Permits for Matthews projects run through the Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Agency, and we account for that in the scope from the beginning. A permit is required for construction, alteration, or repair of most structures in Matthews, including a separate permit for insulation and energy equipment. Don't hire a contractor who's talking you out of pulling permits. That's a problem you'll own when you sell the house.
My Matthews home was built in the early 1990s. What renovation issues should I expect?
The median Matthews home was built around 1993, which puts a lot of them at or past the expected service life for the original roofing and siding. Original 1990s-era roofs, vinyl or wood siding from that period, and bathrooms that haven't been updated since the house was built are the most common things we're called to fix. It's worth getting a real inspection before assuming everything's fine. We'll tell you honestly what the house needs.
How far in advance do I need to book a Matthews renovation project?
It depends on the scope. Smaller handyman-level work can often be scheduled within a week or two. A full kitchen or bathroom remodel requires more planning time. Call (704) 957-5323 and describe what you're looking at. We can give you a realistic window once we know what the job involves. We're available Monday through Friday, 8AM to 6PM.
Can Greater Charlotte Contracting handle both the roof and the siding on my Matthews home in the same project?
Yes, and that's often the most practical approach. Exterior work on Matthews homes from the 1980s and 1990s frequently involves both. Coordinating roofing and siding through one contractor means the sequencing gets done right, there's no finger-pointing between trades, and the estimate covers the full scope from the start. We've done combined exterior renovations in the area and can walk you through exactly what's involved.
Are there rebates available for home improvement projects in Matthews?
Duke Energy, which serves Matthews, offers Smart Savers rebates on select home improvement projects. These typically apply to energy-related improvements. We'll flag it during the estimate if your project qualifies. Don't assume every improvement is eligible, but it's worth factoring in when you're planning the budget. Every job is different. Contact Greater Charlotte Contracting for an accurate estimate and we'll walk through what applies.
How does Greater Charlotte Contracting handle flooding risk on Matthews renovation projects?
Matthews has a moderate flood risk, with roughly 6 in 100 properties carrying some flood exposure over the next 30 years. That matters for certain renovation decisions, particularly anything that involves the exterior, drainage, or lower-level work. We'll ask about the site and factor that into how the project is scoped. If something about your property's drainage or grading needs to be addressed first, we'll tell you that before work starts.
