Cornelius Renovation Work Done Honestly

Greater Charlotte Contracting handles home renovation in Cornelius, NC from roofing and exterior work to full kitchen and bathroom remodels. If your Cornelius home needs one trade or ten, you're dealing with one contractor who shows up himself, not a project manager relaying messages from an office. With 20-plus years of hands-on construction experience and a 5-star rating across 17 Google reviews, the scope here runs wide and the pricing doesn't get inflated to cover a layers-thick overhead structure. Call (704) 957-5323 to get a straight estimate.

Cornelius homes in the Northwest corridor range from 1970s builds to newer construction, and the renovation needs shift a lot depending on which era you're in. Older homes in that range often show worn siding, aging rooflines, and bathrooms that haven't been touched in decades. Newer builds have their own quirks around finishes and material wear. Building permits for renovation work in Cornelius run through the Mecklenburg County permitting system, with zoning review from the Cornelius Planning Department and inspections handled by county staff. We're familiar with how that process works and can walk you through what your specific project will require before a single nail goes in.

What Cornelius Homeowners Actually Need

The Lake Norman corridor has specific demands. Here's where we spend most of our time.

Roofing

Twenty years of roofing is what built this business. Cornelius gets its share of storm seasons, and a roof that's been patched by two or three different people is almost always worse than one that's never been touched. We do full replacements, targeted repairs, and inspections on homes where the previous work left questions.

Kitchen Remodeling

A kitchen remodel in Cornelius isn't just a cosmetic upgrade. Layout, plumbing rough-ins, cabinet placement relative to the original framing, electrical for modern appliances. We scope it correctly from the first walk-through so the estimate you get is the number you pay.

Bathroom Remodel

Full bath conversions, tub replacement, tile work, fixture updates. We've converted half baths to full baths and fully gutted decades-old primary suites. The scope depends on what's behind the walls once demo starts, and we don't hide that reality from you going in.

Siding and Exterior

Siding on homes built in the 1970s through 1990s in this area has usually been through a few hard summers. We repair, replace, and match existing profiles when full replacement isn't the right call. Exterior work bundles naturally with roofing, and we handle both without bringing in separate crews.

Decks

Cornelius and the Lake Norman corridor have strong demand for outdoor living space. We build decks from the ground up and repair existing structures where the framing or ledger boards have deteriorated. Every deck project accounts for NC frost depth requirements and Mecklenburg County permitting.

Handyman Services

Smaller jobs don't get handed off. Vent cover replacement, drywall repair, tile work, painting. If it needs doing correctly and you don't want to manage five separate calls to get it done, one call here covers it. That's the point of having a contractor who works every phase himself.

Our Approach

One Contractor, Full Scope

  1. 01

    Honest Estimate First

We walk the job, ask the right questions, and write an itemized estimate. You'll know what you're paying for before anything starts, and we don't treat the estimate as a floor to negotiate upward from once we're on site.

  2. 02

    Owner On Site

The person who scoped your project is the person doing the work or directly supervising it. That's not a branding statement. It means accountability doesn't disappear the moment the job starts.

  3. 03

    Clean Handoff at the End

Timeline, cleanup, final walkthrough. We don't consider a job done until you've seen the finished result and said so. Reviews like Andy Malenke's, where the job finished on time and the initial quote matched the final number exactly, are what we aim for on every project.

Local Specifics

Permits and Planning in Cornelius

Renovation work in Cornelius runs through a two-step permit process. Applications go through Mecklenburg County's online system, zoning gets reviewed by the Cornelius Planning Department, and physical inspections are handled by county staff. For homeowners doing their first significant renovation, that process can feel like a lot of moving parts. It isn't complicated once you've been through it a few times, but not knowing what's required at each stage can stall a project by weeks. We know how it works and factor permitting timelines into every project schedule we put together. Cornelius also sits in an area where roughly 2.4% of properties carry some flood risk over a 30-year horizon, which occasionally affects how foundation-adjacent work or drainage needs to be scoped. We'll flag anything relevant to your specific lot before you're committed to a plan.

What Clients Have Said

Clint did such a great job helping us replace some outdoor vent covers. We had a basket style vent cover that had cracked and birds had nested inside. We had previously tried other handymen that would say they would come out and never showed because it was a small job. Clint came out very quickly, in the rain, and made it so much more efficient and esthetically pleasing. He was very affordable and professional. Clint is the MAN! He will now be our go to guy for other projects. I highly recommend him!

So, I just wanted to first of all thank Liz for the great referral to get my home project done. I was a bit nervous however after meeting Clinton, I can’t thank him and his team enough for the job well done to my satisfaction. Clinton listened to what I wanted and delivered just that. Clinton not only listened also very professional and knowledgeable. He gave me a step by step timeline and actually stuck to it. That’s very rare to find in a contractor however his team was awesome and went above and beyond my expectations with the attention to detail. So my rating is really a 10/10. I had a simple garage make over.

Let. Me . Tell . You . Something . Clint is GREAT! He’s done a major project on my home and I couldn’t ask for a better experience with a general contractor . Our current project is converting a half bath to a full bath downstairs . And as I’ve stated everything has been great and it’s not complete but I’m that pleased with the way things have come along to write a review . Communication is very important in things like these and he is nothing short of amazing with his communication and professionalism ! If there was ever a doubt on who to select for your next project , don’t doubt . Reach out to Greater Charlotte Contracting !

Had a great experience working with Clint and Greater Charlotte Contracting. He did great work in a reasonable amount of time and for a reasonable price. I have had a few home projects I’ve needed to complete within the last few months and he has not only provided me great service with these projects, but also has had great referrals for work outside of his scope of business. I would highly recommend anyone looking for work to be done in the Charlotte area to work with Greater Charlotte Contracting.

Cornelius Renovation FAQs

What types of renovation work do you handle in Cornelius?
Roofing, siding, kitchen and bathroom remodels, tub replacement, deck builds, flooring, drywall, painting, and handyman work. In Cornelius specifically, we see a lot of exterior-first jobs on older homes in the Northwest corridor, along with kitchen and bath updates on homes that were built in the 80s and 90s and haven't been touched since. If it's a renovation scope, call (704) 957-5323 and we'll tell you straight whether it fits what we do.
Do you handle Mecklenburg County permits for Cornelius renovation projects?
Yes. Renovation work in Cornelius routes through Mecklenburg County permitting, with zoning sign-off from the Cornelius Planning Department and inspections by county staff. We're familiar with the process and factor permit timelines into the project schedule from the start. You won't find yourself in a situation where the work is done but the final inspection is holding things up because nobody planned for it.
How does the age of my Cornelius home affect the renovation scope?
Homes in the Cornelius Northwest neighborhood that were built between the 1970s and 1990s often have aging rooflines, siding that's past its useful life, and original bathrooms that need full gut renovations rather than surface-level updates. Newer builds have different issues, usually around finishes and updated fixture requirements. The age of your home affects what we find once demo starts, and we try to set realistic expectations about that before you're committed to a timeline.
Does Cornelius's flood risk affect how renovation work gets scoped?
For most homes, no. About 2.4% of Cornelius properties carry some flood risk over a 30-year window, which is a minor exposure for the area. Where it does matter is for foundation-adjacent work, crawlspace or basement renovation, and drainage planning. If your lot is in or near a risk zone, that needs to be known before the scope is finalized. We'll ask about it during the estimate walkthrough and flag anything that changes the approach.
How far out are you scheduling renovation work in Cornelius?
That shifts depending on the time of year and what's already on the books. Exterior work like roofing and siding books fast heading into fall. Interior remodels have more scheduling flexibility. The honest answer is to call (704) 957-5323 during our hours, Monday through Friday, 8AM to 6PM, and we'll tell you where the calendar actually sits. We don't hold spots we can't fill.
Can you handle both the roofing and exterior siding on the same Cornelius project?
Yes, and that's often the more efficient way to approach it. On older homes in Cornelius, the roof and siding have usually aged together, and doing them as a single coordinated project avoids redundant staging and cleanup. We handle both trades directly, which means one schedule, one estimate, and one person accountable for how it all comes together. Exterior contractor work and roofing are the two areas where the owner's 20-plus years of experience runs deepest.
